I still don't know why I imagined Bob Dylan not being able to write a book. I mean, the guy is one of the most respected lyricists of all time. In some of his better songs, there's a clear narration with a beginning, middle, and end; and in his best songs, there's subtext. That's what I should have kept in mind while reading this book. Maybe then I wouldn't have been so blown away by how wonderful it is. Basically, it's a short story collection, with each story coming from some event in Dylan's life, but to call it a short-story collection is to do it an injustice, because this man knows how to write a line. When you take his talent for the line and extend it across a couple of hundred pages...that's what this book basically is. I can't recommend it enough.
