I know that Gabriel Garcia Marquez's best book is supposed to be A Hundred Years of Solitude, but I actually liked this much better. The writing is beyond beautiful, and the story is much more readable than A Hundred Years of Solitude, if only for the fact that its characters have different names. In my mind, I always associate Love in the Time of Cholera with Wuthering Heights. I read them at the same time and they tackle the same subject: unconquerable love. Unlike Wuthering Heights, though, Love in the Time of Cholera is ultimately redemptive, making it a much more satisfying read for me.
